We developed a visual language for the poster and film titles around neon signage, drawing on the story’s Beijing setting. Orange-red Chinese lettering sits alongside a smaller turquoise English title, with the glow of both colours carrying into the surrounding darkness.
For the poster, we placed the two characters in silhouette on either side of the vertical title. Keeping their faces in shadow brings the focus to their gestures and the space between them, reflecting the secrecy suggested by the story.
We carried the same palette and atmosphere into the opening and closing titles. The neon lettering was built in 3D, with attention to the tubing, its depth and the light falling onto the background.
